Geco

Geco

The common gecko (Tarentola mauritanica) is a small lizard of the Gekkonidae family, common in most countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

The adults can measure up to 15 cm long, including the tail. This gecko is robust and has a flat head. Its feet and tail have prominent conical tubercles. If the gecko regenerates its tail, it is rather smooth and free of tubercles. It has an obtuse mouth, and eyes with vertical pupils and no eyelids. It has fingers with large lateral growths and, on the lower part of the face, laminae that are separate from one another.

The 3rd and 4th fingers end in union. Colouring is brown or brownish gray, with bright or dark spots. These colours change in intensity depending on the light. When active by day, their colouring is darker than when they are active at night. It is found on many sites, ruins, rocks, fallen trees, etc.
