Swine fever remains in Sardinia

2016-06-01 Dott.sa Carla Petta posted:

Yesterday, 31/05/16, in the Sardinian newspapers there was talk of a topic already treated by Gallura Disinfestazioni in previous posts: the African swine fever. At the heart of Sardinia, the Mission Unit for the Fight against the infestation intervened with the slaughter of 76 pigs.

To date, internationally known disease control measures are based on prevention and eradication. Detailed monitoring of the progress of the disease, epidemiological investigations and early diagnosis are performed, through the slaughter of all the animals, whether they are infected or suspected of infections and contamination, and through subsequent disinfections. In order to prevent the spread of the virus, the European Commission has prohibited the shipment outside the regional perimeter of meat and pork products obtained with Sardinian meats.

Swine fever remains in Sardinia

The Gallura Disinfestazioni, a leading company in the sector, operating in Northern Sardinia and Costa Smeralda, based in Olbia, has intervened in the past few years in the regional campaign for the eradication of the epidemic by assisting the Municipalities and Local Health Authorities carrying out disinfection interventions following slaughter of animals in order to prevent the spread of the epidemic.
